What is CBD Wellness?
CBD wellness products are designed with your mental and physical wellbeing in mind. If you’re new to CBD or if you’re simply looking to understand why so many people are raving about its wellness benefits, you probably have a few questions about what CBD is and how it works to help maintain your wellness.
CBD is a powerful botanically sourced compound that boasts numerous benefits to many areas of your overall wellness. The science behind CBD is complicated and still being researched but fortunately, it’s safe and very easy to use. Are you ready to make CBD a part of your everyday routine?
What is CBD?
CBD is short for cannabidiol, a compound that naturally occurs in cannabis plants. It safely works with your body’s natural endocannabinoid system to promote homeostasis.
Where Does CBD Come From?
CBD is one of the many components extracted from hemp plants. While there are multiple options for extraction, we opt for an organic food grade ethanol extraction process to separate the compounds from the plant material, leaving behind a natural concentrate of all the hemp plant’s goodness (cannabinoids, terpenes, etc.).
This extract is then blended with all types of ingredients such as carrier oil to dilute it into a specific concentration for tinctures, topical ingredients such as shea butter for topicals, and peanut butter for a delicious consumable, among many others!. Without additional ingredients, CBD extracts would be too concentrated to dose appropriately, way too overpowering of a flavor that may be hard to bear, and way too sticky/thick to be directly applied to the skin.
How Does CBD Benefit People?
Everyone’s body is equipped with an endocannabinoid system. You have receptors that engage cannabinoids to support important functions and processes within your body. When you fuel these receptors with cannabinoids, they either serve to enable or disable certain functions.
CBD helps you thrive. It relaxes you, supports more restful sleep, boosts exercise recovery, promotes overall mental health, and supports overall wellness. It’s not because CBD inherently changes your body. It’s because CBD supports your body. Your body is incredibly effective at taking care of itself, sometimes it just needs a little fuel to support it and cannabinoids are not something you are getting from your everyday diets.
Is CBD Safe?
CBD is incredibly safe and more and more studies are being funded and done showing that long term CBD use does not have prolonged negative impact on almost everyone who takes it it. Side effects are minimal, and are most often a result of the other ingredients in the CBD oil. Always choose a CBD product with a well tolerated carrier oil if it’s a tincture or any other accompanying ingredients whether it is topical or edible. If you have any concerns, you can always mention CBD to your doctor.
Is CBD a Drug?
CBD is not an intoxicating drug. The intoxicating compound of the cannabis plant is THC. Hemp extract CBD is made from hemp plants, rather than higher THC marijuana plants. Hemp plants and finished products contain a maximum of 0.3% THC, a number regulated by the law. Make sure to check third party lab reports on your CBD before you use it for cannabinoids and potential contaminants.
If you still have concerns about this minimal amount of THC, use a broad spectrum CBD product. Broad spectrum CBD products contain all the cannabinoids & terpenes you’re looking for in the hemp plant except that the THC has been removed down to a non-detectable level (in many cases less than 0.02% in extracts and less than 0.005% in finished products). Always check the lab report to assure yourself that the THC is non-detectable or down to a level you’re comfortable. Very important note: Just because a lab test shows non detectable does not mean it’s not present in a product. Make sure you look at the Limit of Detectability / Quantification of the lab tests because some companies try to game lab tests by using labs with higher levels of limits of detection/quantification or asking them to use a higher levels. For example, if a lab tests show a limit of detectability of 0.05% then if the product contains 0.04% it will show as non-detectable while there is still more THC than you would likely want in your product if you’re trying to avoid it altogether.
What is Wellness?
Wellness is a vague term, but that’s because it encompasses so many things including but not limited to physical, mental, general wellness, among others. All aspects of wellness are incredibly important. Tending to your wellness helps you feel better, physically, mentally, and emotionally. Small steps in each of these can do a lot to improve your life and they have an even bigger impact when they’re tended to all together.
The Difference Between Health and Wellness
Health refers to your general physical and mental condition. For example, if you’re 100% completely healthy then you are free of illnesses, physical injuries, don’t have any vitamin deficiencies, etc.. Vitamins, medications, and your physician, specialist, or mental health professional can help you take charge of your health.
Your wellness is slightly different. Wellness is a series of decisions you make or things you do that help you to feel better, sort of like habits. For example, eating a balanced diet rich in vitamins and nutrients is healthy. Adopting a certain diet that provides everything your body needs that also tastes good and makes you feel good about the things you’re eating plays into your wellness.
What is a Wellness Routine?
A wellness routine is a series of actions you adopt that make you feel good. Journaling, gardening, giving yourself facials, a weekly massage, a biweekly pedicure, a yoga class, listening to positive affirmation podcasts, committing to getting more sleep, taking supplements like CBD, and prepping healthy lunches are all a part of your wellness routine.
How to Start a Wellness Routine
Think about all the things you feel good doing. Make a list of your favorite self care activities, or areas of your life you want to make more time to tend to. Are you long overdue for a fulfilling hobby? Pick one up. Are you sick of spending money on takeout lunches every day when you know you make the best avocado salad in the world? Start prepping them on Sunday night.
You don’t need to make and implement a bunch of drastic changes all at once. Make promises to yourself that are easy to keep and slowly begin following through with them. Once you’ve mastered the basics of your routine, you can begin to add in bigger promises. You may not be able to get in that half hour of yoga every day, but even 15 minutes can have a tremendously positive impact on your daily life. Make some compromises and go with the flow.
Incorporating CBD Into Your Wellness Routine
CBD can become an addition to your wellness routine. If relaxing, getting more restful sleep, and moving around more a part of your wellness routine, CBD can be a great addition to help you achieve those goals. Using CBD is easy, and you have many options for consumption (tinctures, topicals, edibles) and it only takes a minute out of your day.
Which Form of CBD Should I Use?
CBD for wellness comes in many forms. The two most popular forms are softgel capsules and CBD oil tinctures. They both come with unique advantages. You should pick the form that works best for your wellness goals and lifestyle.
Capsules are easy to travel with and use. Most of us are used to taking supplements or vitamins in this form. You can just add one more capsule supplement to your routine and take them all at the same time (not literally all at the same time!). You can pop a pre-measured dose of CBD right into your daily supplement case and you’re ready to go.
Tinctures come in a glass bottle and are measured in drops. These drops go directly under your tongue. You hold them there for 30-60 seconds and then swallow. These drops go to work quickly, and they give you more control over your dosage with our graduated droppers. Their packaging makes them less portable, but they are one of the most effective delivery methods for CBD Oil.
If you’d prefer taking your CBD supplement in delicious snack form, then we have a couple great options for you. You can add extra CBD into your wellness routine in the form of CBD infused healthy snacks, like almonds or peanut butter. You can use CBD infused topicals to soothe your muscles after a hard workout or from sitting at a desk job all day.
Which Spectrum of CBD Should I Use?
Full spectrum’s inclusion of miniscule amounts of THC produces something called the entourage effect. The entourage effect is when every compound within the plant is able to deliver its benefits in synergy, sharing a boost to their abilities. Any properly formulated CBD product will not make you feel intoxicated when you use a full spectrum CBD oil.
If you have concerns about THC, even though it’s only a tiny amount, you don’t have to use a CBD product with detectable levels of THC. Broad spectrum CBD includes everything that full spectrum includes, except it has very very low to no THC in it. Please see the important note we included above about how you need to review lab testing for broad spectrum.
The Takeaway
Everyone needs a wellness routine. Taking care of yourself and prioritizing the things your body, mind, and spirit need are important tasks and will actually bring out the best in you. CBD can become a valuable part of helping you achieve your wellness goals, even if all you need to improve your feeling of overall wellness is a little more rest and relaxation.
